Budget
What budget do I need for my garden design?
One of the most frequently asked questions faced, and there is no straightforward answer. Each garden design is crafted to the client’s needs, desires, and the functions the garden needs to perform. In short, no two gardens are the same and therefore won’t have comparable budgets.
However, to try to give a broad estimate, in terms of cost per m2, hard landscaping costs from around £160/m2, whereas planting is nearer £60/m2.
A broad estimate as to what you could expect from your budget might look as follows:
Budget £10k - £15k
A garden designer can make a great impact with a small budget, with clever material and plant choices. A small urban garden with restricted hard landscaping and effective planting can be achieved on a small budget.
Budget £15k - £30k
A healthy budget for a full design process. Newly landscaped areas and some built features such as pergolas and water features might included as well as some great planting. Some eye-catching mature planting might be selected to give instant impact.
Budget £30k+
Larger gardens and those with special features can be designed. The designer can work closely with professional landscapers to ensure the highest quality work is carried out.
What extra costs might be involved?
In any design, expertise from specialisms such as structural engineering, tree surgeons and professional surveying might be necessary. The use of these specialists is imperative to deliver the high quality product that is demanded, and in full knowledge the garden is produced with safety ensured for all parties involved.
In all cases I will flag up the potential use of third party expertise as soon as I’m aware that it may be required.
Other potential costs might include seeking legal permissions with local or environmental authorities.
