Modern City Garden, York

The owners of this newly acquired garden wanted a multifunctional space to meet the demands of a large family. Like many small city gardens, it must work hard to meet all the functions required of it, whilst maintaining interest and beauty.

Relocating a shed at the rear of the garden freed up the width of the space to allow for a seating area large enough for family and friends. Further seating is found around a barbeque area, also a great spot for an evening drink or morning cup of tea.

The often overlooked passageway to the side of the property was fit with arbors to create visual interest, an inviting walkway from the house.

Limited planting was selected to provide a year round permanence as well as a beautiful multi-stemmed amelanchier.

Porcelain tiles were used to create a modern style, with cedar cladding used to screen the neighbouring property.
